My Headpiece was inspired by my Mum and her love for Breton's and Bows. My mum has always loved the Breton hat, she is a royalist and loved seeing our late Queen Elizabeth wearing them. With this said I have named by piece after my mum "Betty" I wanted to create a fun and modern piece, I do enjoy keeping with traditional methods of millinery, but I also enjoy adding a touch of contemporary style into my work, I feel this adds a little fit of fun. There were various materials used to create "Betty" from sinamay, parisisal straw, vintage braid and 2 colours of frayed ribbon. I chose to modernize my piece by attaching upside down bows randomly around the front and normal at the back, the frayed ribbon has been fused together wired and shaped to give volume, and to make them a little quirky. The frayed ribbon around the edge to give a 3D look. I am thrilled to submit my Lillian Frank AM MBE Millinery Award 2024 "Betty"
