Almandin (GER)
A Group 2 winner in Germany, Almandin became owner Lloyd Williams’ sixth Melbourne Cup success when winning in 2016. He won the Cup lead-up race the G3 Bart Cummings at Flemington.
Apache Cat
Famous for his distinctive white facial markings but also his stellar sprinting career in which he won eight Group 1 races including the 2008 G1 Lightning Stakes, which began a run of five consecutive Group 1 wins. He also won the 2006 G1 Australian Guineas as a 3YO.
Beat The Clock
Beat The Clock retired as a four-time Group 1 winner in Hong Kong, and also placed five times at the highest level. He had many on track battles with former stablemate and Living Legends resident, Mr Stunning.
Beauty Generation (NZ)
A champion miler, Beauty Generation was named Hong Kong Horse Of The Year in 2018 and 2019. He retired an 8-time Group 1 winner and the highest prizemoney earner in Hong Kong Jockey Club history.
Beauty Only (IRE)
Originally named ‘Gentleman Only’ won 3 of his first 4 starts in Italy as a 2YO before transferring to Tony Cruz in Hong Kong. He quickly established himself as a top performer winning the 2015 G1 Hong Kong Classic Mile at his 5th Hong Kong start.
Brew (NZ)
Bred in New Zealand, Brew won the 2000 G1 Melbourne Cup, the first for Flemington-based trainer Michael Moroney and for jockey Kerrin McEvoy. Brew was one of the original residents of Living Legends.
Bullish Luck (USA)
A giant, standing at over 17 hands high, Bullish Luck was a five-time Group 1 winner, four in Hong Kong, as well as the 2006 G1 Yasuda Kinen in Japan. He was named Hong Kong Horse Of The Year in 2006. He was the first horse to beat fellow Living Legends superstar, Silent Witness, in the 2005 G1 Champions Mile.
California Memory (USA)
The small but tough ghostly grey was a stable star and fan favourite. He was a four-time Group 1 winner, highlighted by back-to-back wins in the 2011 & 2012 G1 Hong Kong Cup. He had a wonderful association with his regular jockey, Matthew Chadwick.
Designs On Rome (IRE)
Group 1 placed as a 2YO in Ireland, trained in Hong Kong by John Moore, Designs On Rome was a fan-favourite. He was voted the 2013/14 Most Popular Horse by Hong Kong racing fans and was also named Horse Of The Year after three Group 1 successes in the season.
Efficient (NZ)
Affectionately known as ‘Fish’, this grey gelding was a true Flemington star winning all three of his Group 1’s at the track - the 2006 G1 Victoria Derby, 2007 G1 Melbourne Cup and the 2009 G1 Turnbull Stakes.
Fawkner (NZ)
Another Lloyd Williams-owned grey, Fawkner was a consistent galloper winning 11 races in his career, three at Group 1 level, including the 2013 G1 Caulfield Cup, the 2014 G1 Caulfield Stakes, and the 2015 G1 Makybe Diva Stakes.
Good Ba Ba (USA)
Good Ba Ba won the G1 Hong Kong Mile an incredible three years running from 2007-09, stamping himself as one of the best milers to set hoof in Hong Kong. He won four more Group 1’s in Hong Kong.
Harlem (GB)
Harlem was best known for his back-to-back Group 1 wins in the Australian Cup in 2018 and 2019, both at long odds. He was trained by Lindsay Park after arriving from France where he was train by André Fabre.
Lucky Nine (IRE)
Lucky Nine was one of the most popular sprinters to have ever raced in Hong Kong. He won the Group 1 KrisFlyer International Sprint at Kranji, Singapore twice and had a great association with Australian jockey, Brett Prebble.
Maluckylady (NZ)
An outstanding stayer Maluckyday (NZ) was yet another horse to win the Hotham Stakes on Derby Day to gain the coveted ballot-exempt entry into the Melbourne Cup, in which he came finished a gallant second to champion French-stayer, Americain.
Pakistan Star (GER)
A cult hero amongst racing fans worldwide after his debut performance produced one of the most phenomenal last-to-first wins ever seen on a racetrack. Dual Group 1 winner of The Audemars Piguet QEII Cup and The Standard Chartered Champions & Chater Cup in 2018.
Peniaphobia (IRE)
His name means a ‘fear of poverty’, but that was certainly not the case for his connections, amassing over AUD $8mil in prizemoney. A dual Group 1-winning sprinter, his career-defining moment came in an all the way win the 2015 G1 Hong Kong Sprint.
Prince of Penzance (NZ)
Famous for one of the biggest upsets in Australian racing history, Prince of Penzance won the 2015 G1 Melbourne Cup at odds of over 100-1, with jockey Michelle Payne becoming the first female jockey to win the time-honoured race.
Redkirk Warrior (GB)
A one-time Hong Kong Derby favourite, trainer David Hayes turned Redkirk Warrior into one of the best sprinters in the land. He won the G1 Newmarket Handicap back-to-back in 2017 and 2018 and also the 2018 G1 Black Caviar Lightning.
Santa Ana Lane
A five-time Group 1 winner, Santa Ana Lane won Group 1’s in Victoria, South Australia, New South Wales and Queensland. He won the 2018 G1 VRC Sprint Classic at Flemington, as well as the 2018 G1 Goodwood, the 2018 G1 Stradbroke Handicap, and the 2019 G1 TJ Smith Stakes.
Silent Witness
A legend of Hong Kong racing, Silent Witness was crowned the world’s best sprinter three years running from 2003-05. He began his career winning his first 17 races before his first defeat at the hands of Bullish Luck. His final win was the 2006 G1 Sprinters Stakes in Japan.
Super Jockey (NZ)
He began his racing career on turf before switching to dirt and sand tracks, a move which would prove successful with a win in the 2016 G1 Korea Sprint in Seoul.
The Cleaner
A bargain $10,000 purchase for Tasmanian-trainer Mick Burles, The Cleaner amassed over $1.3 million in prizemoney in his career, winning the G2 Dato Ta Chin Nam Stakes back-to-back in 2014 and 2015.
Tom Melbourne (IRE)
Tom Melbourne will forever be remembered for his 14 second placings, becoming a cult figure as one of Australia’s most talked about horses. He ran second in some of Australia’s biggest races including the 2017 G1 Epsom Handicap and 2017 G1 Cantala Stakes, was also a close third in that year’s G1 Railway Stakes in Perth.
Twilight Payment (IRE)
The 2020 G1 Melbourne Cup winner, Twilight Payment was the second success in the race for Irish-trainer Joseph O’Brien, and a seventh win for prominent Victorian-owner, Lloyd Williams.
