Discover the magic with a General Admission ticket

27 October 2023 Written by VRC

The 2023 Melbourne Cup Carnival begins on Saturday 4 November with Penfolds Victoria Derby Day and the curtain raiser to a week of world-class racing, food, fashion, and entertainment.

A General Admission ticket to Cup Week starts at just $60 and is a powerful thing with so much more than just racecourse entry. Once through the famous Flemington gates, your world – as they say – is your oyster (and champagne).

The Front Lawn

General admission racegoers can position themselves for a front row seat to a week of racing’s most iconic races: the Penfolds Victoria Derby, the Lexus Melbourne Cup, the Kennedy Oaks, and the TAB Champions Stakes – each race the Group 1 feature of the day. In a week littered with group racing, Cup Week attracts the world’s best horses, jockeys, and trainers all looking to write their names into racing folklore. The track is where history happens.

Leading eateries also star at Flemington during Cup Week ready to satisfy an array of tastes with dishes from around the world. The popular Japanese diner Mr Miyagi will be wowing racegoers at one end of the Front Lawn while up at the west end hungry patrons can get their fill with bratwursts and bretzels from Bratboy, Louisiana-style fried chicken from New Orleans Chicken, and Ninja burgers and gyozas from Katsu King.

Saintly Place Sports Bar will also be a bustling destination for its refreshing drinks, hot and cold takeaways, bar games, betting facilities and all the live racing action from around the grounds.

The Park

A short walk from the racing action on the track, up on The Hill sits The Park. Enter into a world of food, fashion, and entertainment. From buffalo wings and pulled pork among the plates at The Ranch to tapas-style Brazilian dishes at Petisco and fresh authentic Thai bites from Ging Thai – it really is food-on-the-go heaven. If the mood takes you, bartenders are serving Mr Black espresso martinis all day; the Pony Bar takes on a Western theme welcoming those looking for some refreshing cocktails; and The Stables will be primed for those uniquely Instagrammable photo moments.

Fashion-minded merrymakers will be drawn to the style and creativity of the Fashions on the Field competitions as the runway heats up with the Grand Finals on Kennedy Oaks Day. The competition will be even fiercer this year with international finalists looking to raid some of Australia’s most coveted fashion awards.

The Park Live Stage plays host every day to international and homegrown acts with the celebrations hitting a crescendo after the last as racegoers flock for a post races party. THE CORRS, Joel Corry, Client Liaison, Jon Stevens, Hot Dub Time Machine, Rogue Traders, Timmy Trumpet, and Mell Hall are set to entertain the crowds across the four days.

Flemington is getting all dressed up and ready for a week of history-making racing, fabulous food, fashion, and entertainment.

Wherever your general admission ticket takes you once you enter through those famous Flemington Gates, a magical world is simply waiting to be discovered.
