Flemington crowns new sprint star as Tentyris shines in Black Caviar Lightning

Black Caviar Lightning Race Day delivered a spectacular return to Group 1 racing at Flemington today, with a crowd of more than 10,000 turning out to celebrate elite racing and honour the legendary unbeaten mare Black Caviar.

The Group 1 $1 million Black Caviar Lightning at Flemington was won in emphatic fashion by Tentyris, who confirmed his status as one of the world’s most exciting sprinters with a breathtaking performance.

The Anthony and Sam Freedman–trained colt secured his second Group 1 victory in as many starts, adding the famous 1000‑metre straight sprint to his spring triumph in the Coolmore Stud Stakes.

Ridden by in-form jockey Damian Lane who scored a remarkable four winners on the day, Tentryis powered home, and now has a potential Royal Ascot campaign in his sights.

My Gladiola produced a terrific run to claim second for trainer John McCardle and jockey Jamie Mott, while the Ciaron Maher‑trained Benedetta finished third.

Sixties stamped himself as a genuine contender in the Group 1 $1 million Australian Guineas taking out the CS Hayes Stakes for Chris Waller. Meanwhile, Café Millenium stormed home to win The Elms Handicap, securing a coveted spot in this year’s Group 1 All-Star Mile on Super Saturday at Flemington and capping off a sensational day for Lindsay Park, with three winners.

Victoria Racing Club Chief Executive Kylie Rogers said today’s meeting provided a fitting start to Group 1 racing at Flemington and a special occasion to honour one of Australia’s greatest champions.
