The National Jockeys Trust (NJT) will be raising money at Flemington to help support the work they do to support fallen and injured riders and their families. Racegoers will have the opportunity to contribute to the NJT by scanning QR codes to donate online or making cash donations straight into fundraising tins located across the course.
In honour of jockey Dean Holland, Race 6 on the program has been named the In Memory of Dean Holland, while other races on the day have been named in recognition of those who support our jockeys and track riders such as the Jockey Assistance Program Plate, the VJA Winter Championship Trophy and the Stableline Sprint.
Heats of the Winter Racing Series will continue on Saturday, highlighted by the VJA Winter Championship Trophy (1600m), a VRC-CRV Winter Championship Series qualifier which will see a field of top off-season horses line up. The 3AW Sprint will see the return of Renosu at Flemington who was an impressive placegetter in the Sunlight Classic on TAB Australian Cup Day.
The winter race series allows horses and connections the chance to compete for generous winter racing prizemoney at Australia’s premier racetrack and culminates in finals on Flemington Finals Day, Saturday 1 July.
Racegoers can appreciate the horses and riders on track from inside one of Flemington’s comfortable venues including Saintly Place Sports Bar, featuring foosball tables and pub fare. For those looking to reserve a table in Saintly Place, Mates Rates tables are still available for bookings of four or six.
The Kids’ Corner also returns to The Atrium for VRC members with various games, a reading corner and colouring-in stations to keep children entertained.
VRC Chief Executive Steve Rosich emphasised the significance of the race day.
“The VRC is proud to stand alongside the National Jockeys Trust as well as the Victorian Jockeys Association to support riders and their families. National Jockeys Trust Race Day is a chance for racing fans to join together at Flemington and admire the skill and bravery of riders across the country.”
Living Legends Efficient and Super Jockey will be on-course for racegoers to visit in the horse stalls and will parade in the Mounting Yard after races 2 and 4.
Gates open at 10:50am with race 1 at 11:50am. General Admission tickets are $20 per person with children under 12 admitted free. For more ticketing information, click here and to donate to the National Jockeys Trust visit https://njt.org.au/donation/donation/.
