The day promises to deliver a strong 10-race card and front-lawn action all day long, with DJ John Course performing on the live stage following the last race. Racegoers can soak up all the fun with General Admission tickets just $10 each and children under 12 free.
The headline race is the $200,000 Group 3 Standish Handicap (1200m) with the winner securing direct entry into the prestigious $1.5 million Group 1 Yulong Newmarket Handicap (1200m) on Super Saturday at Flemington on Saturday 8 March.
The feature has attracted horses from across the country including Iowna Merc (New South Wales) and Aztec Ruler (Western Australia). Local hope, It’sourtime for Flemington trainer Danny O’Brien will be hoping to upset the interstate travellers and go one better this year after finishing second in the same race in 2022.
In collaboration with the Victorian Jockeys’ Association (VJA), the race day honours the human athletes in our sport, jockeys. The VJA, representing registered jockeys and former jockeys in Victoria, works towards ensuring optimal industry conditions and support for jockeys to sustain safe, productive and enduring careers in the racing industry.
Race names across the program carry tributes to VJA initiatives and a blessing of the track ceremony will occur after race 2 to acknowledge the contributions of both former and current jockeys. Racegoers will also be encouraged to support jockeys in need by donating to the National Jockeys Trust on the day via QR codes across the course and in the race book.
VRC Chief Executive Officer Kylie Rogers was looking forward to the race day.
“It was fantastic to welcome back racing at Flemington for 2025 on New Year’s Day with more than 7,500 enjoying the entertainment trackside,” Ms Rogers said.
“The club is proud to be partnering with the Victorian Jockeys’ Association to raise much needed funds for our jockeys and their families via the National Jockeys Trust and I encourage racegoers to donate if they can.”
“The Group 3 Standish Handicap looks to be another quality edition with an all-important golden ticket into one of Flemington’s biggest sprints, the Yulong Newmarket Handicap on one of the biggest race days of the autumn, Super Saturday.”
The Summer Social oasis returns with inflatable pools lining the Flemington Front Lawn so racegoers can cool down while enjoying all the live entertainment on offer.
Living Legends Tom Melbourne and Apache Cat will be trackside for the day and will parade in the Mounting Yard after races 2 and 4, racegoers can visit them in the race day stalls throughout the day.
Gates open at 11:30am ahead of the ten-race program starting at 12:20pm. For more information or to purchase tickets, visit vrc.com.au.
