Under the Elms: the place to be Cup Week

For over a century, the area between The Hill and the track was the vibrant centre of Flemington Racecourse. Once home to the original Birdcage horse stalls, the mounting yard, and the bustling betting ring, ‘under the elms’ was where crowds gathered, horses paraded, and Cup Day came to life. Henry Byron Moore’s vision for a stunning Flemington was realised beneath the shade of grand old trees, and it was here that Flemington’s race day spirit first took hold.

Now, this historic corner of the course is being reimagined for a new era, with The Elms precinct becoming the ultimate entertainment hub for Cup Week. Throughout all four days, the Elms Live Stage will host a spectacular line-up of both international and local music legends, infusing new energy into a place that has long been part of Flemington’s soul.

It all begins on Howden Victoria Derby Day, when Australian rock legends ICEHOUSE will perform. With a career spanning over 45 years and hits like Great Southern Land, Crazy, and Hey Little Girl, led by music icon Iva Davies, this performance promises to be a powerful start.

On Lexus Melbourne Cup Day, the mood shifts to dance and electronic beats as Australian duo PNAU energise the stage with global hits Cold Heart and Chameleon. Melbourne-based DJ and producer CYRIL will set the vibe beforehand.

Crown Oaks Day will bring a highlight with UK superstar Craig David presenting TS5, which will be his only public Melbourne appearance in 2025. With hits like 7 Days, Walking Away, and Fill Me In, he’s sure to bring nostalgia and fun to the lawns of Flemington.

And finally, on TAB Champions Stakes Day, global DJ sensation FISHER will conclude the week as part of the Off the Rails after-party. For the first time at Flemington, the racecourse beyond the Winning Post will open for this event, allowing you to dance on the turf itself. Aussie favourite Little Fritter will warm up the crowd before the main act.
