Verry Elleegant posted a career-best performance on Tuesday, with her international ranking set to see her soar into somewhere near the top-10 racehorses in the world this year.
Racing Victoria's Greg Carpenter, who is on the panel of international handicappers who decide the world rankings, said on Thursday that he will be putting forward to the panel that Verry Elleegant ran to an international mark of 122 when carrying 57 kilograms to beat well-regarded pair Incentivise and import Spanish Mission.
He said such a mark would place just Makybe Diva (125 in 2005 Cup) above her for staying mares this century.
"She beat two very high-class horses with a margin of four lengths," Carpenter said. "Despite the race having something of a long tail, the result of the race ensured it will rate highly."
Verry Elleegant's previous international high came earlier this year in Sydney when she beat international star Addeybb in the G1 Ranvet Stakes (2000m).
Three horses share the top line of 127 in the most recent rankings, Godolphin horse Adayar, John Godsden's Mishriff and retired Coolmore horse St Mark's Basilica.
"It will be a very high-rating race because of which horses ran in the first three," Carpenter said.
"We also have to take into account the fourth-placed Floating Artist, who had a relatively low rating, but notwithstanding that, it will be one of the highest-rating Melbourne Cups in recent history."
