The Penfolds Victoria Derby has crowned champions since 1855.

This 2500m race tests the stamina and spirit of Australia’s finest three-year-old thoroughbreds, etching their names into racing legend.  

Let’s rewind the clock and relive the magic of the last five Penfolds Victoria Derby winners: 

2019: Warning – Trained by Anthony Freedman and ridden by Damien Oliver, Warning showcased his staying prowess with a dominant victory, solidifying his place among Derby greats. 

2020: Johnny Get Angry – This underdog, trained by Denis Pagan and ridden by Lachlan King, defied the odds with a thrilling victory, proving that dreams can come true. 

2021: Hitotsu – Trained by Ciaron Maher and David Eustace and ridden by John Allen, Hitotsu demonstrated his class with a powerful performance, overcoming a wide barrier draw to claim Derby glory. 

2022: Manzoice – In a stunning upset, Manzoice, trained by Chris Waller and ridden by Michael Dee, stormed to victory, showcasing his exceptional staying ability and leaving a lasting impression on the racing world. 

2023: Riff Rocket – Trained by Chris Waller and ridden by James McDonald, Riff Rocket delivered a thrilling performance, narrowly defeating Apulia in a photo finish to claim the coveted Derby crown.
