Each year, thousands of children miss out on the simple joy of a present under the tree on Christmas morning. With this appeal, Variety – the Children’s Charity is aiming to provide toys to over 4,500 kids who would otherwise go without.
Racegoers will have the opportunity to contribute to the appeal by scanning the QR code on their phone to make a donation and add a message of joy and hope that will be written in a card and attached to their gift for a child.
Variety – the Children’s Charity provides grants for life changing equipment and programs and scholarships to kids living with disadvantage, disability, and illness to ensure kids are able to achieve their full potential in life. The UnBox Joy Appeal is raising funds to purchase gifts for children in need over Christmas and they are hoping to raise $243,000 this year to provide 4,500 kids with gifts.
VRC Chief Executive Officer Steve Rosich said the Club is proud to support Variety’s Christmas Appeal this year.
“Variety’s UnBox Joy Appeal is a wonderful initiative that shares the joy of Christmas with children who would otherwise miss out.
“VRC’s Christmas Race Day is all about bringing together friends and family to celebrate the holidays, and we are pleased to be able to extend that magic to families who are doing it tough this year.”
Variety CEO Mandy Burns said “We are thrilled to share the joy of Christmas and giving with the VRC Race Day community. A toy under the tree is a small thing to give, but for a child in need, it can bring a ray of sunshine and joy in what can be a very challenging time.”
Racegoers can purchase tickets at Ticketmaster with prices starting at just $20 per person. Children under 12 and accompanied by an adult are admitted free to Flemington all year round.
