A Lexus Melbourne Cup Day to remember forever.
The big day that we’d all been waiting for delivered on all its promise, and then some.
With the sun beaming down on the 10,000-strong crowd, the reveller’s spirit was alive and well across Flemington, as the iconic, $8 million ‘race that stops the nation’™ was won in striking style by the champion mare, Verry Elleegant. Her tenth Group 1 win, she joins Makybe Diva (2005) and Rain Lover (1969) as reigning Australian Champion Racehorses of the Year to also take the Lexus Melbourne Cup.
As with Melbourne Cup Carnival’s past, 2021 never failed to excite. Australians everywhere joined together to revel in the spirit of the day-long celebration, with elegance and energy, beauty and buzz all coming together for this shared moment of history.
